Explore the route and altimetry to relive this mythical climb

9.8KM – Media 9.3% – 910M+
Description

The Giau Pass from Selva di Cadore is one of the toughest and most beautiful bike climbs in the Dolomites: 9.8 kilometers, above Cortina d'Ampezzo, up to the 2,226 meters of the pass, with a view of the Tofane and Pelmo that is worth every meter of effort.

The road climbs relentlessly from the first hairpin bend. The average gradient of 9.3% offers no respite, alternating regular ramps with sudden bursts that reach 18.2% in the steepest sections. The 910 meters of elevation gain concentrated in less than ten kilometers make every pedal stroke a precise physical investment: there's no false flat to recover on, no shortcut. The forest gives way to high-altitude meadows and the final bends, with the road winding through pastures and Dolomitic rock, provide one of the most spectacular finishes in Italian Alpine cycling.

The Giro d'Italia has established the Giau as one of its toughest arbiters. In 2021, it was Cima Coppi—the highest peak of the entire race—and there, Egan Bernal stamped his mark on the stage and then on the entire general classification. In 2026, the Giau returns to be Cima Coppi for the fourth time in the history of the pink race: some stages never get old.
