Description
The Gavia Pass from Santa Caterina Valfurva is the lesser-known and quieter route to the wildest pass in the Lombard Alps: it starts at an already high altitude of 1,734 meters, in the heart of Valtellina, and climbs for 13.5 kilometers up to the 2,621 meters of the pass through a landscape that becomes increasingly bare, austere, and magnificent.
With an elevation gain of 884 meters and an average gradient of 6.5%, this side is technically less challenging than its Brescian twin from Ponte di Legno — but the comparison is deceiving. Starting already above 1,700 meters means the air is thin from the first pedal stroke, and every demanding section is faced with a body that has to work harder to oxygenate itself. The road alternates between flowing sections and biting ramps, in an environment where the mountain dictates the rules and the silence is absolute.
On June 5, 1988, in the most legendary stage of modern cycling, the Giro d'Italia riders climbed the Gavia from this very side, from Valfurva, in a full snowstorm. It was Andy Hampsten's day, who ascended the pass in the storm and became the first American to wear the pink jersey in the history of the Giro. The Gazzetta dello Sport called that day "The day the giants cried" — and something of that legend has remained etched on every curve of this road.

Care and cleaning
Heroroads are made from bio-based material and should be treated with the same care you would give to things you love. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and keep them away from heat sources: the material should not exceed 70°C. For cleaning, a soft, dry cloth is sufficient—no solvents or aggressive products.

1. Does the shape reflect the actual route?

Each model is designed using a precise and accurate 3D drawing based on a GPX track of your achievements
2. I can't find my climb and/or route, can I request it from you?
We can create any route or segment. By sending us the GPX file, you can view the rendering in 24 hours and receive the 3D print at home within a few days. Go to the dedicated section ->
3. Can I add a name, date, or dedication?
Yes. The HEROAD Custom can be further customized with text, a logo, or a beech wood base to make it even more unique.
4. What material are HEROAD made of?
HEROADs are made of PLA (Polylactic acid). PLA is a corn-derived material.
Protect from direct sunlight. Do not expose to temperatures above 80°C. To clean, use a soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and harsh detergents.
5. What sizes are available?
There are 4 sizes available:
Micro— The keychain size, up to 5 cm high
Pocket— The compact and collectible version, up to 12 cm high
Original— The right balance of stage presence, up to 30 cm high
Big— The display version, for events, awards, bike hotels, up to 60 cm high

6. How long does it take to receive a HEROAD?
It takes 3-4 days for Heroad deliveries in Italy and 7-10 days for international deliveries. This is because each Heroad is produced to order. If you are in a hurry to receive it, please let us know in the notes field during checkout.
